He was predeceased by : his parents, Harley Clingman Owen and Azalea Grace McCall Owen; his significant other Leona Carter Owen; his daughter Teresa Owen DeVore; and his siblings, Truman Owen, Violet Blythe and Jean Murr.

He is survived by : his daughter Phyllis Owen Robinson (Michael) of Canton; his son-in-law James E. DeVore of Mills River; his sisters, Nancy Spurling (James) and Joan Bracken (Leo); his sister-in-law Ruby Owen; his grandchildren, Monica Robinson (Josh), Marisa R. Caldwell, Jeremy DeVore (Wendy), Daniel DeVore (Courtney), Maurice Robinson (Lindsey) and Rev. Bennie Robinson (Jodi); and his great grandchildren, Madison Surrett, Avery Caldwell, Bryson Robinson, Collin Robinson, Brooks Robinson, Aidan DeVore, Libby DeVore, Carlie DeVore and Everett DeVore.
