He was predeceased by: his parents, Freeman Compton and Mamie Tinsley Compton; and his siblings, Mary Reid, Roy Compton and Carl Compton.

He is survived by: his wife Mary "Cindy" Compton; his children, Cynthia Williams (Wayne), Shannon McCann and Larry Compton (Kim); and his brothers, Lewis and Charles Compton. He is also survived by four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
