He was predeceased by: his parents, William Ithra Holder and Mina Holder; his wife Edith "Jeanette" Cox; his siblings, Bill, Oscar, Donald Holder, Lynda Mae Clark, Lee Etta Barefoot, Inez Mangum, Beatrice Holder, Betty Brown and Shirley Holder; his son Robert W. Thomas, Sr.; and his great grandchild Valorie Hutchens.
He is survived by: his children, Patricia H. Bridgers (Warren) and Gary M. Thomas, Sr. (Pam); and his grandchildren, Andrea Thomas, Robbie Thomas, Gary M. Thomas, Jr., Cliff Thomas, Luke Thomas (Kelli), Mandy Johnson (Jeremy) and Katy Bridgers (Ryan Hughes). He is also survived by 11 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
