She was predeceased by : her parents, Eugene Carlisle Tatem of Norfolk and Virginia Breeding Tatem. She is survived by : her children, Jean and Wilson; her sister Mary Ellen Tatem Williams; her aunts, Mary Breeding and Ollie Tatem of Virginia; her husband John Bernard Bates; her son John Carlisle Tatem Bates (Lori Kuley-Bates); her grandchildren, Jessica Pearl Bates and Andrew Charles Bates; her sister Barbara Anne Tatem Steffe; and also Barbara (Wilson Steffe). She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
