He was predeceased by: his parents, Daniel Rucker and Dora Brammer Howell; his son Jerry Howell; his granddaughter Kimber Elise Long; and his siblings, Goldie, Carlene, Gene, Lillie, Allen and Mac.
He is survived by: his wife Mary Ann Rice Howell; his children, Paula Howard (Randy) of Burlington, John Hill (Sharon) of Winterville, David Alan Hill of Graham, Kelly Howell (Wesley) of Eden and Lisa Boswell (Shannon) of Liberty; and his sister Elizabeth Barker (Liz) of Florida. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren.
