As Dewey departs from our midst, his spirit ascends to join the cosmic dance of stars, a shimmering constellation of memories that will forever grace the night sky of the hearts of those who loved Dewey. Though Dewey may no longer walk beside us, his legacy lives on — a testament to the enduring power of love to transcend the boundaries of time and space.
He was predeceased by: his parents, Jonah Oakes and Evelyn Annie Weaver Oakes. He is survived by: his son John Oakes (Jann); his grandchild Kinny; his daughter Stephanie Gable (Stephen); his grandchildren, Wesley and Levy; and his sisters, Hildred Garland, Marjorie Brown and Ruby Jones. He is also survived by many extended family members and friends.
A memorial service was held on Wednesday, September 24th 2025 at 4:00 PM at the Lowe Funeral Home Chapel (2205 S Church St, Burlington, NC 27215).
