He was predeceased by: his wife Christine Madden Phillips; his parents, Odis Jackson Phillips and Ivy Staley Phillips; his daughter Vickie Johnson (Garry); and his brothers, Dalton Phillips (Mae), Jack Phillips (Ruby) and Earl Phillips (Gladys).
He is survived by: his children, Bill Phillips (Paula) of Lenoir, NC and Lynnette Phillips Thacker (Dan, Jr.) of Mebane, NC; and his grandchildren, Brian Johnson (Molly), Erin Ashley Huffman (Andy), Kristi Zalesky (Troy), Alan Johnson (Amber), Charlie Ross and Katie Johnson (Kyle). He is also survived by ten great grandchildren.
