He is survived by: his daughters, Marilyn Blackwell of New York, Sarah Miles of New York and Myra Blackwell of Knightdale; and his siblings, Otis Blackwell of Burlington, Catherine Byrd of Winston Salem and Brenda B. White of Burlington. He is also survived by nine grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
