He was predeceased by: his parents, Fred Whitson and Isby Gortney Whitson; his siblings, Kate Bailey, Arthur Whitson, Claude Whitson and Jay Lee Whitson; his father-in-law Everett Garland; and his brother-in-law James Webb.
He is survived by: his wife Earlene Garland Whitson of Green Mountain; his daughter Angela Whitson Beaver (Doyle) of Green Mountain; his grandson Ashton Beaver of Green Mountain; his sister-in-law Ella Jean Webb; his nieces and nephews, Greg Whitson (Lori) of South Carolina, Anthony Webb (Leia) of Burnsville, Amanda Duncan (Donald) of Lenoir and Miranda Evans (Mack) of Burnsville; his great-nieces and great-nephews, Aidan Duncan of Lenoir, Grayson Webb of Burnsville, Madison, Ansley Whitson of South Carolina and Julianna Duncan of Lenoir; and his mother-in-law Julia Garland of Buladean.
