He was predeceased by: his parents, Gus Woodrow McPherson, Sr. (Etta Sawyer McPherson) and Judith Peffer McPherson; his daughter Mary L. Gaskins; and his brothers, John McPherson and Ed McPherson.
He is survived by: his children, Elizabeth C. McPherson of Chesapeake, VA, Gus McPherson, III (Theresa) of Camden, NC, Joseph McPherson (Sheila) of Camden, NC and Scott McPherson (Barbara) of Camden, NC; his sister Doris Hassell of Camden, NC; and his close friends, Johnny and Mary Upton. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to Geneva Baptist Church, 806 NC Hwy N, South Mills, NC 27976.
