He was predeceased by: his parents, Walter Sawyer and Sallie Jones Sawyer; his wife Sylvia Sawyer; his son Lawrence Sawyer, Jr.; and his siblings, Tom Sawyer and Daisy S. Cartwright.
He is survived by: his daughters, Terrie S. Gregory (Greg) of Elizabeth City and Lisa S. Anderson (Randy) of Camden; his grandchildren, Britney Breci (Tony) of Benson, Kristal McCoy of Lynchburg, VA, Tiffany Cooper (Blake) of Camden and Tyler Gregory (Stephanie) of Camden; his great grandchild Wesley James Cooper; his niece Brenda Winslow (Jerel); his nephew C. A. Cartwright, Jr.; his sons-in-law, Greg and Randy; Stephanie Mead, Barbara Riggs, Linda and Larry Elmore. He is also survived by five great-grandchildren.
