He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Arthur Deffenbaugh and Doris Deffenbaugh; his sons, Justin and Blair Deffenbaugh; his wife Patricia Deffenbaugh; his brother Forrest Deffenbaugh; his daughter-in-law Ericka Deffenbaugh; and also Laura Paap.

“In high school you allowed me to drive your go-cart over your folks backyard with that big dip in the middle, you brought a friend and I back to Washington from ECU, did donuts in the Rose's parking lot. She thought it was cool, I hid my head in the backseat. the picnic at Havens Garden, later, I cooked fried chicken and homemade biscuits for you, your girl and Steve. RT, you skimmed the biscuits over the Pamlico (they were so hard)! Always entertainingly! thanks for the memories,”
