He is survived by: his wife Belinda Digges Shelton; his children, Jeanette Louise Carter and Charles "Chuck" Albert Shelton (Kristy); his siblings, Doyle Shelton, Gail Harwood and Barbara Gardner; and his grandchildren, Matthew King, Justin King, Andrew King, Brett Carter, Molly Carter and Allison Shelton. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, extended relatives, friends.
His commitment to service and country earned him respect and admiration, primarily due to the American heart and soul he displayed to all those around him.
