David leaves behind cherished memories for friends, family, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. David’s life was marked by connections and experiences that touched those around him. Though he is no longer with us, the moments shared, the laughter, and the support he offered will continue to resonate. All who knew David will carry forward his memory in their hearts.
He was predeceased by: his parents, Dr. David Leonard Collins, Jr. and Patricia Anne Benson Collins. He is survived by: his daughter Audrey Forrest Collins of Spain; his son-in-law Scott Dingle; his granddaughter Amelia; his pet Bradley; his stepson Patrick Legar (Chelsea); and his siblings, Dr. John Collins (Faith) of Salisbury, NC, Deborah Collins Thompson (Chuck Thompson) of Apex, NC, Bill Collins (Kimberly) of Salisbury, NC and James Collins (Valerie) of Candler, NC. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Topsail Turtle Project (https://seaturtlehospital.org), a place that held a special meaning for Dave and his North Carolina relatives, or the Tibet Fund, in honor of Dave's enduring love of turtles of all kinds and his lifelong commitment to human rights and justice.
