It is with sadness that the passing of Howard Messer (Canton, North Carolina) is shared. Howard, born on July 18, 1940 in Waynesville, North Carolina, passed away on July 27, 2026. He was predeceased by: his parents, Thomas "Tom" Messer and Vanita Cagle Messer; his wife Anita Messer; his son Michael Messer; and his brothers, Oliver Messer and Claud Messer.

He is survived by: his son Stephen "Steve" Messer (Vickie); his grandchildren, Kristen Cairnes (Brian), Phillip Messer (Kirsten) and Austin Messer (Taylor); his great grandchildren, Mykaela Blue (Tyler), Mykenzie Brown (Josh), Nathan Cairnes (Skylar), Morgan Williams (Landon), Merit Messer, Noah Messer and Jaxson Messer; and his sisters, Eleanor Messer and Lois Morrow. He is also survived by six great great-grandchildren.
