He was predeceased by: his parents, Rev. Dillard Andy Mathis and Minnie Mills Mathis; and his siblings, Maybelle Stephens of Sylva, Cecil Mathis of Canton and Frank Mathis of Sylva.
He is survived by: his children, Jody Mathis of Canton, David Mathis of Sylva, Anthony Franklin of Waynesville, Rebecca Mathis of Sylva and Kristy Mathis of Sylva; and his sister Norma Jean Grooms of Raleigh, NC. He is also survived by five grandchildren.
A funeral service was held on Tuesday, July 8th 2025 at 1:30 PM at the Chapel of Crawford (1 N Main St, Canton, NC 28716).
