He is survived by: his wife Shirley Arrington Cogburn; his daughter Cathy Cogburn Lee (Harold) of Clyde; his stepson Keith Sheehan (Amy); his brother Hubert "Shorty" Cogburn of Canton; his grandchildren, Heather Lee (Kevin), Justin Lee and Aiden Sheehan; and his great grandchildren, Karter and Danika Beck.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pleasant Hill Cemetery Maintenance Fund, in care of HomeTrust Bank in Clyde, 8583 Carolina Blvd, Clyde, NC 28721.
