He was predeceased by: his parents, Louise Dowell Carter and William M. Carter, Sr.; his sister Jane Grace Hodge; and his nephews, Tommy and Timmy Walker.
He is survived by: his wife Carol Carter; his sons, W. M. Carter, III (Tripp) and Jon Matthew Carter; his stepdaughter Betsy Reid (Marc); his grandson Jake; his stepdaughter Holly Curbow (Dustin); his grandsons, Daniel and Carter; his sister Martha Johnson (Prentice); his nieces and nephews, Mitch and Carter; and his brother-in-law Marvin Brantley. He is also survived by many other family members and friends.
