It is with sadness that the passing of Shirley Ann Townsend (Cary, North Carolina) is shared. Shirley Ann, born on June 29, 1944 in Clanton, Alabama, passed away on September 18, 2026. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
She was predeceased by: her parents, Etta Rich and John A. Rich; her sister Linda Rich Folsom; and her stepsons, George H. Townsend, III and Michael Bryan Townsend.
She is survived by: her husband George H. Townsend, Jr.; her daughter Jeanne Townsend Shannon (Tom); her grandchildren, Thomas Battle Shannon, Jr., George Townsend Shannon, Ashley Paige Conner (Nate) and Megan Townsend Perkins (Robert); her great grandchildren, Brody Conner and Lawson Perkins; and her nieces, Tonya Folsom Pohlel and Tracie Folsom.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, October 17th 2026 at 1:00 PM and from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the Brown-Wynne Funeral Home (200 SE Maynard Rd, Cary, NC 27511).
Flowers may be sent to Brown-Wynne Funeral home or donations can be made to the International Fellowship of Christians and Jews to honor Shirley in a way that reflects the kindness and love she shared throughout her life.
