She was predeceased by : her parents, Walter Clyde Whitener and Effie McCray Whitener; her son Charlie Haire; her brothers, Allen and Joe Whitener; and her granddaughter Amber Crouse.

She is survived by : her husband Johnny Lee Gilbert of Maiden; her children, Johnny Gilbert (Angela Brown) of Maiden, Eddie Gilbert (Sandy) of Maiden, Scott Gilbert (Shelly) of Maiden and Debbie Wike (Danny) of Catawba; and her siblings, Harold Whitener of Lincolnton, C. W and Barbara Rogers of Lincolnton.
