He was predeceased by: his parents, John Herman "Jack" Whitehead and Mollie Hammond Whitehead; and his brother Gale Whitehead. He is survived by: his wife Sylvia Sellers Whitehead; his daughter Kristie Whitehead Priest (Doug); his grandsons, Jarrett Priest (Yazmin) and Jackson Priest (Julia); his great grandchildren, Alex Priest and Blakelyn Priest; and his sister Judy Whitehead Bowen. He is also survived by loving nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held on Thursday, October 29th 2026 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Worthington Funeral Home (405 E Strawberry Blvd, Chadbourn, NC 28431). A funeral service will be held on Friday, October 30th 2026 at 2:00 PM at the Cedar Grove Baptist Church (2372 Cedar Grove Church Rd, Cerro Gordo, NC 28430). A burial will be held on Friday, October 30th 2026 at the Gowan Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Johnny's memory to the Building Fund at Cedar Grove Baptist Church.
