She was predeceased by : her parents, Bill Gates and Helen Gates of Chapel Hill; and her brothers, Kent and Billy Gates. She is survived by : her sons, Shannon (Chanita) and Brad (Carli); her grandchild Rusty; and her brother Ronnie Gates. She is also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A funeral service was held on Saturday, April 13th 2024 at the Bethel Baptist Church (9326 Bethel Hickory Grove Church Rd, Chapel Hill, NC 27516).
