It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Eugene Walden Hackney of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, born in Sanford, North Carolina, who passed away on August 30, 2023, at the age of 91, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by : his parents, Hoyt Milton Hackney and Alma Walden Hackney; his wife Sara Alice Jackson Hackney; and his sister Carolyn Hackney Bunting. He is survived by : his brother Hoyt Milton Hackney, Jr. of High Point, NC; his daughters, Sally Hackney Barley (Steve) of Baltimore, MD and Elizabeth Hackney Whitsel (Eric) of Chapel Hill, NC; his granddaughters, Elizabeth Barley Kameen (JD) of Beaufort, SC, Katherine Barley Ebby (Jack) of Philadelphia, PA and Anne Carlton Whitsel of Boston, MA; and his great grandchildren, Cotter W. Kameen and Sara Collins Kameen.
