He is survived by: his son Bernard Sherrill; and his siblings, Kirk Johnson (Katherine), Diana Stowe (Richard) of Charlotte, NC, Dr. Sheila Johnson of Charlotte, NC and Belinda Johnson of Charlotte, NC. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
