It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Carl Vernon Lawing of Charlotte, North Carolina, who passed away on January 3, 2023, at the age of 93, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his parents, Charlie Mack and Carrie Lawing; and his siblings, Arnold, Ella Mae, Clifford, Florine, Catherine, Rosella, Loyah, Bertie Faye and Byron Eugene.

He is survived by: his wife Shirley; his sons, Carl Jr. (Margie), Scotty (Karen) and Steven; his grandchildren, Shaun, Michael (Katie), Lindy (Matt), Brian (Amanda) and Faith; and his great grandchildren, Macie, Liam, Cora, Landon, Morgan and Lennon. He is also survived by nephews and nieces.

In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the church or charity of your choice.

“I had the joy of meeting your father later in life along with my Mom - Lou Ellen Underwood. Carl was close to my Mom's sister who died of leukemia when they were in grade school. Her name was Martha Lee. My Dad, Carl Underwood, knew your father very well and both respected and admired him. As did my grandparents. His generation was the great generation. In service to country, devotion to family and most of all belief in his faith. He was loved and will be missed by many. Cindy Underwood.”
