He was predeceased by: his parents, Carl Ben Carter and Jewel Griffith Carter. He is survived by: his wife Suzanne; his children, Scott Carter (Angie) and Stacy Carter (Zachary); his grandchildren, Amber Carter and Clayton Carter (Nikki); and his great grandchildren, Payton Vanderburg, Caroline Carter, Cole Carter and Catherine Carter.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 2nd 2026 at 11:00 AM and on Friday, November 13th 2026 from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, the family wishes that donations be made to further the fight against Alzheimer's and dementia by visiting the Western North Carolina Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association.
