He was predeceased by: his parents, George Frederick "Fred" Thompson and Harriette Thompson; and his son Brandon Thompson (Lisa). He is survived by: his wife Patricia Thompson; his children, Carrie (Jeff), Lindsey Fox (Jason), Holly Chilton (Jay Carpenter), Taylor Frazier Thompson (Lexie) and Jason Chilton; his grandchildren, Jake Fox, Ellie Fox, Grace Gothelf, Sophie Gothelf, Mary Jane Thompson, Henry Thompson, Brandon Thompson and Laurali Thompson; his brother Mike Thompson; and his pet Trouble.

He was an organ donor, so even in death, he managed to help others, though he would have preferred to donate his opinion. In lieu of flowers, please donate in George's honor to his favorite charity: the Wounded Warrior Project.
