He is survived by: his significant other Perrie "Jackie" Perry; his children, Jeffrey Perry of Charlotte, Darrell Perry (Sabrina) of Kannapolis and Dr. Portia Barnes (Shelby) of Cheltenham, Maryland; his siblings, Johnnie Mae Barnette of Charlotte and Samuel Eric Wallace of Charlotte; and his grandchildren, Michael, Jalen, Seth, Kyndal and Shelby Jaye. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, brother and sisters-in-law, relatives, friends.

Upon his retirement in 1995, George continued his work in community relations, this time within the Grier Heights community, leading to his founding of the Grier Heights Economic Foundation.
