He was predeceased by: his parents, Dr. Carl Theodore Brighton and Ruth Louise Brighton (Krentz); his wife Jo Ann Brighton (Jawidzik); his brother Rev. David Carl Brighton; and his nephew Jacob Thomas Terrell.
He is survived by: his children, Casey Starkey (Stetson), Carl Brighton, Micah Brighton (Sydney) and Zachary Brighton; his grandchildren, Gianna, Freya Starkey, Charlotte, Caroline and Mark Brighton; his siblings, Dr. Susan Terrell (Thomas) and Andrew Brighton (Trisha); and his sisters-in-law, Marcia Brighton and Karen Zinn (Gregg).
Visitation will be held on Friday, October 2nd 2026 from 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM at the Greene Funeral Home, Northwest Chapel (2133 Ebenezer Rd, Rock Hill, SC 29732). A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, October 3rd 2026 at 11:00 AM at the Harvest Baptist Church (153 Miller Pond Rd, Rock Hill, SC 29732).
Memorial Contributions. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Renown Collective, an organization close to Joel's heart through his dear friend Patrick Mitchell.
