John left this world on November 14, 2025 at the age of 89, leaving a void in the lives of so many people. He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles Steckel and Emma Merkel Steckel; his siblings, Mary, Grace, Charlie, Joe, Duke and Steve; and his sisters-in-law, Agnes Gormley Steckel and Joanne Steckel.

He is survived by: his wife Nancy; his children, Christine and Matthew (Sherrie Hyatt); his grandsons, Hudson and Peyton Steckel; his siblings, Vincent Steckel, Agnes Toolan (Jim), Kitty Kovacs (John), Peg Roth (Steve) and Regina Hausman (Dave); and his sisters-in-law, Mary Ellen Steckel and Ivette Steckel. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
