He was predeceased by: his parents, Willie Mae "Wit" Rainey and Leroy Eugene Gordon; his sister Doris "Bobby Sox" Rainey; his grandmother Ida Bell Rainey; and his aunt Virginia "Jenny" Bynum.

He is survived by: his son Christopher Deon Cox; his grandsons, Cameron Dior Cox and Junior Booth; his siblings, Barbara J. Rainey, Ruth E. Lawhorn-Dukes (Clarence), Bernard Rainey (Kim) and Derek Rainey (Marilyn); his cousin Ida Mae Rainey; his nieces and nephews, Lauren Dukes, Monique Williams, Jeronn Rainey and Anthony "Tony" Rainey; and his caregiver James Wesley "Wes" Hazel.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 10th 2026 at 11:00 AM at the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church (517 Baldwin Ave, Charlotte, NC 28206). A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, October 10th 2026 at 12:00 PM at the same location. A burial will be held on Monday, October 12th 2026 at 10:00 AM at the Oaklawn Cemetery (1615 Oaklawn Ave, Charlotte, NC 28216).
