He was predeceased by: his parents, John Cullen (Taylor) and Myrtle Chewning Thomas; and his siblings, Lonnie Douglas, Herschel, Guy, Fred Thomas, Thelma King, Ruth Meador, Eunice Sumner and Lottie Mayche.

He is survived by: his wife Suzie; his daughters, Dru Thomas Quarles MD (Robert Quarles, MD) and Holly Thomas; and his grandchildren, Anabelle of Charlotte, NC., Sam of Charlotte, NC., Brooks Cullen of Charlotte, NC. and Ashley Rowe-Parks Faulkner of Charlotte, NC..

In lieu of flowers, Olen Ray requested donations be made to the Billy Graham Evangelical Association, Queen City Honor Flight or Donaldson Creek Baptist Church.
