He was predeceased by: his wife Joan Gray Hensley; his parents, Ponder Hensley and Inez Hensley; his brother-in-law Earl Etherton; his nieces, Melinda Howell and Tina McBride; Barbara, Bob McCombs, Sandra and Floyd McBride.
He is survived by: his sister Lillian Lynch of Chattanooga, Tennessee; his nieces, Sherry Etherton Duncan (Tony Duncan) of Dandridge and Robin Etherton Gantte (George Gantte) of Dandridge; his nephew Ricky Kirkland (Melissa) of Belmont; his children, Justin Kirkland (Amy), Beth Lanich (Sean Lanich) and Jeremy Kirkland; his granddaughter Lila Mobley; his nephew Bobby Kirkland (Kim); and his great-nephews, Matthew and Luke Kirkland of Lincolnton. He is also survived by extended family members and friends.
