He is survived by: his wife Melissa; his daughter Megan Burrus Masters (Rob); his grandchildren, Lawton Marie and Whitley Ann; his daughter Hayley Burrus Rogers (Ted); his grandchildren, Lila Mae, Sutton Elise and June James; his stepson Adrian Robinson (Katherine); and his brothers, Chip Burrus (Sybil) and Erik Burrus (Beth). He is also survived by nieces and nephews, and a wide circle of friends.

In lieu of flowers, Alan requested that donations be made to the disaster relief organization Samaritan's Purse.
