It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Vernon McCord of Charlotte, North Carolina, who passed away on July 26, 2025, at the age of 82, leaving to mourn family and friends. Leave a sympathy message to the family on the memorial page of Vernon McCord to pay them a last tribute.

He was predeceased by: his parents, J. Howard McCord (Ruth Auten McCord) and Charlotte; and his sister Peggy McCord Hass. He is survived by: his significant other Rose Marie Trakas; his children, Tina Ferrell (Donald), Kim Ballard (Danny), Sandy McCord (Michelle), Randy McCord (Kim) and Christopher McCord (Tiffany); and his sister Juliana McCord Flowe. He is also survived by family, countless friends.

Visitation was held on Wednesday, July 30th 2025 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the James Funeral Home (10520 Arahova Dr, Huntersville, NC 28078). A funeral Mass was held on Thursday, July 31st 2025 at 11:00 AM at the St. Mark Catholic Church (14740 Stumptown Rd, Huntersville, NC 28078).

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Saint Mark's Catholic Church Building Fund.

“Vernon was a happy man who loved his family and friends. He had a sparkle about him and his laugh was joyous and contagious. My late husband, Steve Baldwin, was high school friends with Vernon and their friendship continued. I was fortunate enough to be included and I loved Vernon too. My heart is sad for Marie & his big family. I pray God grants them peace and comfort in the time ahead. Life will be so different for them. Vernon was a well-loved man who blessed the world with his presence. I planted trees in his memory.”
