He was predeceased by: his former wife Barbara VanDenburgh; his wife Margaret Chapman; and his son Walter A. Pond III. He is survived by: his children, Anne P. Chamberlin (Robert "Chip" Chamberlin), Elizabeth P. Rowan (Richard Rowan Jr.) and William C. Pond (Marie Pond); his grandchildren, Justin Chamberlin (Kelly), Catherine Cordero (Daniel), Ingrid Pond, Carrie Mayer (Steven), Wyatt Pond and Emily Rowan; and his great grandchildren, Kayla Chamberlin, Dylan Chamberlin, Jack Cordero, Lucy Cordero and Claire Cordero.
Visitation was held on Wednesday, September 24th 2025 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the McCoy Funeral Home (150 Country Club Dr SW, Blacksburg, VA 24060). A funeral service was held on Wednesday, September 24th 2025 at 2:00 PM at the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel (150 Country Club Dr SW, Blacksburg, VA 24060). A repast was held on Wednesday, September 24th 2025 at 5:00 PM at the Peppers Ferry Clubhouse.
