He was predeceased by: his parents, Charlie Leroy Caldwell and Anna Lenora Wilkinson Caldwell; his sister Dorothy Lewis; and his niece Sherry Lewis Park. He is survived by: his wife Judy Caldwell of Charlotte; his children, Steven Caldwell of Charlotte, Eric Caldwell (Ellen) of Denver and Leigh Ann Caldwell (Michelle Caddigan) of Salisbury; his grandchildren, Hannah Hodges (Mason) and Camden Caldwell; and his nephew Robbie Lewis (Cathy).

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Moore's Chapel Church, 10601 Moores Chapel Rd, Charlotte, NC 28214.
