He was predeceased by: his parents, Willie Spier and Elsie Davidson Spier; his wife Phyllis; and his sister Dorothy Spier Bernstein. He is survived by: his daughter Fran Spier Saylor; his son-in-law Scott Martin Saylor; his grandsons, Adam William Saylor (Bettina Roden Saylor) and Hartman Lee Saylor (Charlotte Jones Saylor); and his great grandchildren, Emmanuel Roden Saylor and Scarlett Elizabeth Saylor. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Crisis Assistance Ministry of Charlotte, Be Loud Sophie Foundation, Myers Park United Methodist Church, or Shriners Children's Hospital.
