She was predeceased by: her parents, Garland Wilbur and Naomi Henkle Stroupe; her husband James Edwin "Jim" Howell, Jr.; her brother Jerry Stroupe; and her nephew Bentley Howell.
She is survived by: her daughter Dr. Heather Porter (Joel) of Cherryville; her granddaughter Kenzie Porter; her siblings, Johnny Stroupe (Brenda) of Cherryville, Joann Weaver of Cherryville, Kay Hallman of Cherryville and Bobbie Jean Gantt of Cherryville; and her nieces and nephews, David Stroupe (Cindy), Wesley Howell (Jennifer), Donna Abee (Mark), Terry Stroupe (Francine), Rusty Stroupe (Karen), Mike Weaver, Cathy Stroup (Jon) and Cynthia Jones.
