He was predeceased by: his parents, James E. "Pete" Howell and Virginia "Ruth" Ford Howell; his brother Kenneth Robert "Corky" Howell (Judy); and his nephew Bentley Howell. He is survived by: his wife Janice Stroupe Howell; his daughter Dr. Heather Porter (Joel); his granddaughter Kenzie Porter; and his sibling's children, Wesley Howell, David Stroupe, Donna Abee, Terry Stroupe, Rusty Stroupe, Mike Weaver, Cathy Stroupe and Cynthia Jones.
