He was predeceased by: his parents, James Allen and Lillian Francis Abernathy Goode; and his siblings, Jerry Goode, Michael Goode, Jamie Goode and Lisa Moody.
He is survived by: his wife Diana Black Abernathy; his children, Tony Shull (Wendy) and Kelly Abernathy; his brother-in-law Bob Moody; his sister Barbara Brackett; his grandchildren, Tony Shull (Maney), Taylor Shull Ross (Malik), Andrew Shull, Nicholas Abernathy (Sunflower), Elondre Freeland (Rachel) and Kayden Freeland; and his close friend Ellis Worcester. He is also survived by 8 great grandchildren.
Visitation was held on Friday, May 23rd 2025 from 5:00 PM to 6:15 PM at the Carpenter Porter Funeral & Cremation Services (1100 E Main St, Cherryville, NC 28021). A memorial service was held on Friday, May 23rd 2025 at 6:30 PM at the same location.
