Evelyn leaves behind cherished memories for friends, family, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. Evelyn’s life was marked by connections and experiences that touched those around her. Though she is no longer with us, the moments shared, the laughter, and the support she offered will continue to resonate. All who knew Evelyn will carry forward her memory in their hearts.
She was predeceased by: her parents, Howard Lee and Pearl Long Ward; and her husband Mack Kent Lail. She is survived by: her daughter Sherry Starnes (Larry) of Conover; her grandsons, Nolan M. Smith (Bayley) of Winston-Salem and James R. Simmons of Boston, Mass; her great grandchildren, Alyssa Smith of Winston-Salem and Desiree Smith of Winston-Salem; and her sister Sandra Little.
Visitation was held on Friday, September 18th 2026 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Hickory Funeral Home (1031 11th Ave Blvd SE, Hickory, NC 28602). A funeral service was held on Saturday, September 19th 2026 at 1:00 PM at the Sandy Ridge Wesleyan Church (2330 16th St NE, Hickory, NC 28601).
