He was predeceased by: his parents, Raymond Pope and Callie Jones Pope; his wife Margie Johnson; his son Tony (Candy Hardee); and his siblings, Junior (Agnes), Pete Pope (Berneice), Elgie Pope (Frank), Lois Southerland (NL) and Hilda Norris (Gardner).

He is survived by: his daughters, Delores Adams and Jo Linda Strickland (Ricky); his grandchildren, Garrett (Jami), Cameron Pope (Jamie), Loni Adams, Karen Thornton, Brittany Arant (Andrew) and Jordan Strickland (Lindsey); his great grandchildren, Rhett, Raelyn, Reynolds Eason, Turner Pope, Bailey Thornton, Davis, Noah, Hudson Arant, Dalton, Hazleigh Strickland, Hunter and Allie Johnson; his great great grandchildren, Micah and Harvey Posco; and his siblings, Jackie (Cookie), Jerry, Charles (Malinda), Jewel Johnson and Ann Allen. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 28th 2025 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the McLaurin Funeral Home Chapel (12830 US 70 Business Hwy W, Clayton, NC 27520). A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 28th 2025 at 2:00 PM at the Chapel of McLaurin Funeral Home (12830 US 70 Business Hwy W, Clayton, NC 27520). A burial will be held on Tuesday, October 28th 2025 at the Neuse Memory Gardens (98 Packing Plant Rd, Smithfield, NC 27577).
