He was predeceased by: his parents, William James "Buzz" and Mildred Pethtel Cunning; his wife Susan Scott Cunning; his brother Jim; and his stepsister Anne.
He is survived by: his children, Eve Cunning (late Thomas) of Orlando, FL, Cindy Craig (Chris) of Clemmons and Chris Cunning of Stafford, VA.; his stepmother Barbara Larko Cunning of Charlotte; his stepbrother Rusty; and his grandchildren, Mary DeGroof, Lea Craig, Grove DeGroof and Jason Craig. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
