Though John Henry may no longer walk beside us, his memory will forever be enshrined in the fabric of the lives of those John Henry touched, a beacon of light guiding us through the darkness. In his absence, his spirit lives on — a gentle whisper in the breeze, a ray of sunlight on a cloudy day, a reminder that love knows no boundaries.
He was predeceased by: his grandmother Leona Wilson; and his parents, John H. Smith, Sr. and Louise Brown Smith. He is survived by: his wife Vernie Heaggans Smith; his children, Ivan Smith (Kimberly), Merv Smith (Dorothy), Valerie Smith, Nicole Jones (Ira) and Anthony Brown; his brothers, Jonathan "Nate" Smith and Jerry Smith; and his uncle Henry Brown. He is also survived by grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Monday, May 18th 2026 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at the Word of Life Family Worship Center (726 E Liberty St, Salisbury, NC 28144). A funeral service will be held on Monday, May 18th 2026 at 1:00 PM at the same location.
