He was predeceased by: his parents, Evelyn Hales Fussell and Frances Hart Fussell. He is survived by: his wife Carol Booth Fussell of Clinton, NC; his son David Hales Fussell of Washington, DC; his sisters, Carolyn F. Medford (Jerry) of Kernersville and Nancy F. Perryman of Winston-Salem; his granddaughter Hayley Knowles; and his great grandchild Sophia Knowles. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

The family is asking to please not send flowers or food to the home, but instead make donations to the coharietribe.org (Great Coharie River Initiative), the North Carolina Coastal Federation, or the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation.
