He was predeceased by: his parents, Raymond Henry and Mary Louise DeSantis Mathews; and his siblings, Shirley Atkins, Leon DeSantis, Edward Mathews, Thomas Mathews and John Mathews.
He is survived by: his wife Kathleen D. Mathews; his children, Mary Kay Harnois (Richard) of Rhode Island and James Robert Mathews, Jr. (Dawn) of Massachusetts; and his siblings, Christine Belletti of Connecticut and Eugene Mathews of Indiana. He is also survived by four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
