He was predeceased by: his parents, Elbert Thomas and Esther Knowles Carter; and his brother Larry Thomas Carter. He is survived by: his wife Peggy O. Carter; his son Mitchell Dexter Carter, Jr. (Jennifer) of Clinton; his granddaughter Amanda Matthis (Travis); his great grandchildren, Landyn Carter and Chloe Matthews; his stepgrandchildren, Lisa Harrison Samantha (Jason) and Jamie Sykes; and his stepgreat-grandchildren, Justin, Tyler, Braxton, River Matthis, Ashleigh, Jase Harrison, Gabby Debose, Ethan Simmons, Vance Simmons and Raylee Hubbard.
