He was predeceased by: his parents, Cornelious Westerbeek and Christina Van Dyke Westerbeek; and his siblings, Christine Quist and Jack Westerbeek. He is survived by: his wife Diane Jean Westerbeek; his sons, Pieter Westerbeek, Jr. (Glynda) of Cary, Kraig Westerbeek (Danna) of Warsaw and Neill Westerbeek (Susan) of Clinton; his grandchildren, Kyndall Marshburn (Carries), Kari Roberts (Brady), Pieter Westerbeek (Natalie), Kelli Westerbeek, Spencer Westerbeek, Karsyn Westerbeek, Laura Cate Westerbeek and Jase Westerbeek; his great grandchild Leighton Marshburn; and his siblings, Mary Respess of Kinston, Jane Krombeen of Grand Rapids, Gerda Medley of Durham and Case Westerbeek of Grand Rapids.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be offered in memory of Pieter to support the NC State Horticultural Sciences Department.
