He was predeceased by: his parents, James Robert Clayton Thigpen and Mary Lou Anders Thigpen; and his wife Ann Balkcum Thigpen. He is survived by: his daughters, Jona Smith (Earl) and Gina Lanier (Art); his grandchildren, Dusty Smith (Regina), Leigha Lucas (Steve), Emily Sandlin (Seth), Eli Lanier (Alyssa) and Evan Lanier; and his sister Debbie Houston (Wayne). He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to Immanuel Baptist Church, 1017 Sunset Ave., Clinton, NC 28328.
